About the artist
Kathy Boe was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. From a young age, she loved creating for others and exploring different types of arts and crafts whether it was drawing pictures on the sidewalk with colorful chalk, weaving potholders, making macramé belts, or cross stitching on her front porch on long summer days. After the birth of her son, Ian, she was introduced to the art of creating Tiffany–style windows and had the privilege of working to restore church windows. Once Ian was off to college, Kathy relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, and quickly discovered a new passion: fabric art. In September of 2003 as she faced advanced stage ovarian cancer the Prayer Pillow emerged; born from a need to reconnect with God in a meaningful way. It wasn’t long before her friends began to request their own Prayer Pillows! During her recovery, Kathy volunteered for Free Arts of Arizona…a not for profit organization that brings art to kids living in shelters, group homes, or residential treatment centers. Each week she brought an art project to 13 year old boys living in a residential treatment facility. The term “Art Heals” was soon realized by both Kathy and the children. She is currently residing with her son in Naperville, Illinois, where she continues to create Prayer Pillows, Prayer Shawls, and sacred space cloths for others, as well as sharing her love for creative expression with children.
